When to visit an allergist

If you experience the following symptoms, it may indicate an allergy:


1. Breathing problems:

  • Coughing attacks, especially at night or in the morning.
  • Nasal congestion or frequent sneezing. This is typical for allergic rhinitis.

2. Problems with eyes:

3. Skin reactions:

  • Itching, redness, or rashes on the skin. This may be a sign of allergic dermatitis, urticaria (hives), or other skin allergies.
  • Painful or swollen skin areas.
  • Sudden rashes after contact with certain substances (e.g. household chemicals, cosmetics, metal products).

4. Reactions after eating food:

  • Abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea or nausea after eating certain foods.
  • Rashes, itching, swelling of the lips or tongue after eating. This may be a symptom of a food allergy.
  • Swelling of the throat or difficulty breathing after eating foods such as nuts, milk, eggs, seafood.

5. Allergy to medications:

  • Skin rashes, itching, or swelling after taking medications.
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing after taking medications.

6. Insect allergy:

  • Severe swelling, pain or redness after an insect bite (bees, wasps, ants).
  • Reaction in the form of swelling or difficulty breathing after a bite (may be a sign of anaphylaxis).

7. Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction):

  • Sudden drop in blood pressure, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips or throat.
  • Loss of consciousness or dizziness.
  • If you suspect anaphylaxis (for example, after an insect bite or eating food), you should contact your doctor immediately.

8. Problems after contact with the environment:

  • Frequent allergic reactions to pollen, dust, animal hair or mold.
  • Symptoms that worsen with the change of season or under certain conditions (e.g., staying in rooms with high levels of dust or contact with animals).
