    Vascular Ultrasound (Veins and Arteries) in Mykolaiv

    Vascular ultrasound is a modern diagnostic imaging method that allows physicians to assess the condition of arteries and veins, evaluate the speed and direction of blood flow, and detect narrowing, blood clots, and other circulatory disorders. The most commonly used technique is duplex scanning, which combines conventional ultrasound imaging with Doppler assessment of blood flow.

    At the ZDRAVO Medical Center in Mykolaiv, examinations are performed using expert-class ultrasound equipment, providing accurate real-time information about vascular health. Patients receive their results immediately after the procedure.

    Which Blood Vessels Can Be Examined?

    Depending on the patient’s symptoms and the physician’s referral, the following examinations may be performed:

    Neck and Head Vessels

    • carotid arteries;
    • vertebral arteries;
    • neck veins;
    • assessment of stroke risk.

    Lower Extremity Vessels

    • deep and superficial veins;
    • leg arteries;
    • diagnosis of varicose veins;
    • detection of thrombosis;
    • evaluation of chronic venous insufficiency.

    Upper Extremity Vessels

    • assessment of blood flow disorders;
    • detection of thrombosis;
    • evaluation of vascular changes following injuries.

    When Is a Vascular Ultrasound Recommended?

    A vascular ultrasound examination may be recommended if you experience:

    • swelling of the legs;
    • pain or muscle cramps in the limbs;
    • sensations of coldness or numbness;
    • headaches or dizziness;
    • high blood pressure;

    What Can Duplex Ultrasound Scanning Detect?

    Duplex ultrasound scanning helps diagnose a wide range of vascular conditions, including:

    • atherosclerotic plaques;
    • arterial stenosis (narrowing of the arteries);
    • blood clots (thrombi);
    • impaired venous outflow;
    • varicose vein disease;
    • thrombophlebitis;
    • disorders of cerebral circulation.

    Early diagnosis can help prevent serious complications, including stroke and thromboembolism.

    How Is the Procedure Performed?

    Depending on the type of examination, the patient may be positioned either lying down or standing.

    The physician applies a special ultrasound gel to the area being examined and moves the transducer over the skin to assess the condition of the blood vessels and evaluate blood flow parameters in real time.

    The procedure typically takes 20–30 minutes, is completely painless, and does not require any recovery time afterward.

    How to Prepare for a Vascular Ultrasound?

    In most cases, no special preparation is required.

    Recommendations:

    1. Avoid caffeine and energy drinks for 3–4 hours before examinations of the neck vessels.
    2. Do not consume alcohol on the day before the procedure.
    3. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being examined.
    4. Avoid intense physical activity before the examination.

    Regular medications can usually be continued as prescribed; however, you should inform your physician about any medications you are taking before the examination.

    Is the Examination Safe?

    Vascular ultrasound does not involve radiation exposure and can be performed repeatedly to monitor vascular health and treatment progress over time. The procedure is safe, non-invasive, and suitable for patients of all ages.

    Cost of Vascular Ultrasound in Mykolaiv

    The cost of a vascular ultrasound examination depends on the area being assessed (neck vessels, cerebral vessels, upper or lower extremity vessels) and the scope of the diagnostic evaluation required.
