    Ultrasound of the Prostate and Male Reproductive Organs in Mykolaiv

    Ultrasound of the prostate and male reproductive organs is a modern diagnostic imaging method that allows doctors to assess the condition of the male reproductive system, detect inflammatory processes, structural abnormalities, and tumors at early stages.

    At the ZDRAVO Medical Center in Mykolaiv, examinations are performed using expert-class ultrasound equipment with Doppler imaging capabilities to evaluate blood flow. Patients receive the results immediately after the procedure, along with a detailed medical report.

    What Does the Ultrasound Examination Include?

    The scope of the examination is determined based on the patient’s symptoms and clinical situation.

    Prostate Ultrasound

    The examination allows assessment of:

    • prostate size and volume;
    • tissue structure;
    • presence of nodules, cysts, or calcifications;
    • signs of inflammation;
    • residual urine volume after urination.

    This method plays a key role in diagnosing prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and other prostate conditions.

    Scrotal and Testicular Ultrasound

    This examination helps detect:

    • varicocele;
    • hydrocele;
    • cysts;
    • orchitis and epididymitis;
    • traumatic injuries;
    • suspicious masses and tumors.

    Blood supply to the testicles can also be evaluated using Doppler ultrasound.

    Penile Ultrasound

    Used to diagnose:

    • circulatory disorders;
    • erectile dysfunction;
    • fibrotic changes (Peyronie’s disease);
    • vascular abnormalities.

    When Is the Examination Recommended?

    Ultrasound of the prostate and male reproductive organs is recommended if you experience:

    • pain in the lower abdomen or perineal area;
    • frequent or difficult urination;
    • decreased sexual potency;
    • blood in the semen;
    • infertility;
    • swelling or pain in the scrotum;
    • routine preventive screening after the age of 40.

    Early diagnosis helps detect diseases at an early stage and allows timely treatment.

    Methods of Prostate Ultrasound Examination

    Transabdominal Ultrasound

    This examination is performed through the anterior abdominal wall. It allows the physician to assess the overall size of the prostate and evaluate the condition of the urinary bladder.

    Transrectal Ultrasound (TRUS)

    This is the most informative method of prostate imaging. A specialized ultrasound probe is gently inserted into the rectum, allowing detailed evaluation of the prostate structure and detection of even minor abnormalities.

    The examination is performed by an experienced specialist using a thin probe designed to minimize discomfort and ensure patient comfort throughout the procedure.

    How Is the Procedure Performed?

    The examination typically takes 15–30 minutes, depending on the scope of the study.

    1. During a transabdominal ultrasound, the patient lies on their back.
    2. During a transrectal ultrasound (TRUS), the patient lies on their side with knees bent.
    3. Scrotal and penile ultrasound examinations are performed while the patient is lying down.

    The procedure is painless. Mild and temporary discomfort may occur during a transrectal examination, but it usually lasts only a short time.

    How to Prepare for the Examination?

    Preparation depends on the type of ultrasound being performed.

    For Transabdominal Prostate Ultrasound:

    • Drink 1–1.5 liters of still water 1–1.5 hours before the examination.
    • Do not urinate before the procedure is completed.
    • Limit foods that may cause bloating for 1–2 days before the examination.

    For Transrectal Ultrasound (TRUS):

    • Perform bowel cleansing 6–8 hours before the examination (using an enema or micro-enema).
    • Avoid heavy meals on the day before the procedure.

    For Scrotal and Penile Ultrasound:

    • Follow standard personal hygiene practices.
    • Avoid intense physical activity before the examination.

    If you are taking any medications, please inform the clinic when scheduling your appointment.

    Is the Examination Safe?

    Ultrasound does not involve radiation exposure and can be performed repeatedly to monitor treatment progress. The procedure is safe and does not affect reproductive function.
